It is time to abolish caste/gender based quota system in India

A highly qualified person who is from General category is refused admission/appointment because a mediocre student from SC/ST/OBC/Woman category applied! This can be frustrating for the meritorious student from General category. Also, if a not-so-eligbile person gets admission/appointment to Medical/Engineering/Govt. jobs just because he or she is from SC/ST/OBC/Woman category, it can be dangerour for the socity.

A meritorius boy or girl can become a good professional only. Admission and Recruitment should be offered based on merits only - not caste or gender.

arguments against the issue

- We have celebrated 60 years of Independence few years back. Ideally there should not be any backward classes in the country.

- Only 2/3 generations of a SC/ST/OBC family should get the benefits - not more than that.

- All the citizens get basic education for free; for higher education they have to fight.

- Help can be offered in other forms, such as scholarship - but the eligibility criteria for jobs and higher education should not be relaxed at any cost.

- Caste and gender based quota system acutally inspires discriminations in the society.

- Quota system is actually a way for the political parties to secure votes.

General people like me also live in rural areas where no facilities are available still we fight back. Why SC/ST/OBC people can not fight? Don't they have talent ? If no then giving reservation to non-meritorious people are we not ruining the future of this country ? Time to think about it..

Why do obc,sc and st require wuota or reservation. .?Don't they have enough brains or knowledge to crack entrance examinations. ..? The quota system has made them dependant....Why the government offices are not working efficiently with eefficiency....?because of the rserved quotas seats who don't have efficiency ans skills to carry on activities. ..this is why private sector is more powerful and successful because they have the creamy employees....there is no reservation in the private sector.....also in a democratic country especially India the largest democracy the constitution states everyone is equal be the law......so Isn't the government abusing our constitution. ...there should be equal opportunities for all......I am not in a favour of abolishing this quota system completely. ...it should be only for yhe the extreme poor of all castes....so plzz consider this argument and make the following amendments. ...thank you

- Even after 60 years of Independence there are villages in India with no electricity, no water. People from such places need support.

- Quota system helps backward classes to get back to the normal track of life.

- People of so-called higher class have enjoyed so many benefits for past many years; why the SC/ST/OBC people will not receive any form of support now?

- Caste based discrimantion still prevails in Indian society; hencce the quota system is very much required.

- Quota system is very much relevant; it shows that the country has done something for the people who have been deprived for so many days.

Quota system must be banned as it is declining the efficiency of several authorities. Moreover, when a meritorious student is unable to get a seat in a well reputed college just because of this reservation system.. It is really a pitiful situation for him/her, it leads to depression. Studies show that the qouta system is a major reason for suicide attempts by brilliant students. Also, we hear many politicians debating around on the issue of BRAIN DRAIN and MIGRATION. Well if they still haven't got the answer to it, then they must open and widen their eyes ASAP!! Still if the government officials feel to help the underprivileged ones, then they can do so reducing the admission charges and the annual tuition charges but should not give them an unfair chance to reserve a seat on the basis of lower cut off. Guys.. I have already been through this and really feel HELPLESS. FRIENDS! We are living in 21st century where such things are meaningless. Please raise your voice to the peak!

I experienced what you have stated above this year. Despite a good rank in postgraduation entrance for dentistry people with quotas were given better seats. I had to choose among the leftovers. I am depressed beyond limit that I am considering leaving the country and pursing education abroad.

Thanks to the quota system of india for it has helped india to achieve the First Rank in inefficiancy and corruption! It seems people in india will not be following any moral ethical values or any system of dicipline!

even the reserved seats for the SC/ST remains vacant in the nop notch colleges and universities here in india,,, equal justice acccording to the merit must be provided,,,, offcource if any student who is financially unable to continue his/her education,, he/she should be provided with government support IRRESPECTIVE OF cast/creed.

"I am firmly against reservation or quotas of any kind. It has been proved that quotas have hardly helped in upliftment of backward caste people. Rather it has only served as a tool to promote a few and for vote bank politics." thank you for typing it. I share the same view.

You know what this quota system has done , an Indian male from general category has become minority quota , which has upper limits but no minimum limits , unlike other quota :P Most of the people who enjoy quota system are not poor or deprived , please check the reality first :)

Quota or charity cannot help a particular community to rise. We have witnessed it from the last 60 years. And the parties here in Bengal offering lot promises to the communities, castes should be banned by the highest authority of India, the Law. Instead we must teach the groups as to how they can earn. For example, if you really want to do some charity, make a small group and work on the projects like say one ST woman makes paper-packets. If we can guide her to market those with technical assistance that would be greater instead of giving free money. The case is same for the SC/ST/OBC. Let them fight. It has been implanted on their mind that govt will favor us always for the sake of votes.

Quota system, either cast based or gender based was supposed to erase the inequality between privileged and non-privileged groups. But in application it actually strengthens the existing divisions and binaries. Instead of enhancing their eligibility it helps backward classes to escape the hurdles in achieving something. On the other hand to provide one section this opportunity to enjoy all undue advantages it deprives general eligible candidates. It is actually an injustice not only to general public but to backward classes too. In near future this quota system may be responsible for the absence of eligible person in governmental body and therefore add to the handicapped situation of our country.

I think a quota system based on Economic Standing is better than something based on a Caste system. I am all for Gender based quotas since we have not achieved Gender equality anywhere, much less in India.

But, before it can be implemented, we need a better system to identify the people who really need to be in that bracket. My only concern is people with BPL card often do not require that ...
