In this season of scams, the need for a strong Lokpal Bill cannot be discounted but in a Parliamentary democracy, what should be the means to ensure the passage of the Bill? While the debate on various provisions of the Lokpal has receded to the background, the question that has come to the fore is whether Anna is armtwisting an elected government or is the Centre so jittery that it needs to clamp this 'movement'. Our May issue 'The revolution drug' on the civil society churning is up on http://kindlemag.in/mag.php and http://kindlemag.in/articles.php?topic_id=1. Do read! And we will look forward to a spirited debate on this forum. The best comments will be featured in the September issue of Kindle!

Rajendra Dayal, who teaches political science in a Delhi University college, said: “Democracy has many languages. If the government represents the sovereign will, Anna is claiming to represent the popular will."... so i feel if we are driven by the "popular will" why support AnnajQuery15105668797600083053_1313766483478 Isnt Sachin Tendulkar more popular in uniting the whole nation?? “It is also undemocratic on his part to reject restrictions in the name of the right to free speech and (the right to) protest, since nobody is above the law. And it is presumptuous to claim that no violence will occur at his gatherings because he has a Gandhian background.”

What Government did was wrong. They did this because they cannot face the man who wants to put an end to their earning process (read. bribery and sucking common mans hard earned money). They are explaining everyone laws of parliament, but they don't understand that it is obvious that accepting the Janlokpal bill will result in showing their true face to public and they won't pass it (read the difference between janlokpla and governments version of it). So, if the people in power are corrupt and they won't implement it, what is the option left with the people? Everyone in politics is corrupt, who can we elect who will without selfishness pass the bill? THIS IS THE ONLY WAY LEFT!
